About Me

I live on a beautiful mountainside in Wyoming, and am very thankful to the local wildlife for sharing it. I'm a happy vegan, constant reader, frequent hiker, and gypsy-at-heart. I love solitude, embrace simplicity and endeavor to live sustainably. I'm progressive and green in my politics, Pantheist and Taoist in my spirituality and worldview, and predominantly Italian in my temperament and cooking. :-) My family consists of three rescued dogs (Willow, Josie and Tess), a beautiful horse (Mocha), many wild furred and feathered kinfolk, and my very generous and patient husband whose favorite saying is, "No more dogs!" ;-)

More About Me

Location: Big Horn, Wyoming

Occupation: I have preoccupations instead of an occupation. :-)

My Philosophy On Life: I think we'd be happier and more at peace if we would think of ourselves and relate to each other as Earthlings instead of as nationalities, along with remembering we are a part of the living world, not apart from it. The self-aggrandizing and destructive idea of "dominionism" needs to be replaced with humility, gratitude, awe and connectedness, so we can remember how to live gently and humbly on this planet.

My Interests: Nature, animals, reading, hiking, travel, digital photography, veganism, organics, hemp products, voluntary simplicity, sustainability, alternative energy, green building, remodeling, T'ai Chi & Qigong

My Inspirations: Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, Rachel Carson, John Muir, Aldo Leopold, Jane Goodall, John Robbins, Joanne Stepaniak, Hardy Jones, Julia Butterfly Hill, Thich Nhat Hahn, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, Dr. Seuss, Dennis Kucinich, Russ Feingold.

Music I Love: Patty Griffin, Loreena McKennitt, Leonard Cohen, Jennifer Berezan, Secret Garden, Gary Stadler, Gordon Lightfoot, many others. Celtic is probably my favorite music genre.

Movies I Love: Baraka, Thelma & Louise, The Green Mile, Heartburn, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Love Actually, Moonstruck, Sixth Sense, Waking Ned Devine, My Cousin Vinny, Time Bandits, The Red Violin, The Bear, many others.

TV Shows I Love: Shows on PBS like Frontline, Nova and Independent Lens.

Books I Love: "Your Heart's Desire" by Sonia Choquette, "The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love" by Jill Connor Browne, "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins, "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, "Last Chance to See" by Douglas Adams, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" by Dee Brown, "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. Favorite authors also include Bill Bryson, James Herriot, Charles Kuralt, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King.

Places I Love: Glacier National Park, New England in Autumn, Glencoe, Devon, and all wild places... especially mountains.

Quotes I Love: I wake up in the morning torn between the desire to save the world and to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.
~E.B. White

Render help and kindness, wherever it is needed,
to all life, great or small. Suffering has no boundaries, neither should compassion.
~Unknown

When you rise in the morning, form a resolution to make the day a happy one for a fellow creature.
~Sydney Smith

The idea of wilderness needs no defense. It only needs more defenders.
~Edward Abbey

Keep close to Nature's heart,
and break clear away once in awhile,
and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.
Wash your spirit clean...
~John Muir

He who knows he has enough is rich.
~The Tao Te Ching

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted
to a profoundly sick society.
~J. Krishnamurti

I believe in God, only I spell it Nature.
~Frank Lloyd Wright

The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.
~Hippocrates

It is a man's sympathy with all creatures that truly makes him a man. Until he extends his circle of compassion to all living things, man himself will not find peace.
~Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Sit, be still, and listen,
because you're drunk
and we're at
the edge of the roof.
~Rumi

Hi,
We only have two rescued dogs at the moment. How wonderful that you get to live with a horse too! I love the quotes you've chosen. I wonder if you're really more of a panentheist than a pantheist?
All blessings...
