Hi Neil,
I agree entirely one must make preparation before shaktipat. I have a fellow student in USA who received shaktipat and experienced severe cleansing, mood swings, anger etc. I told him I believed this was caused by insufficient preparation which he now accepts is probably correct.

thankyou so very much for this post.

i'm not actually sure why KS is rising in me although i feel devotional love and respect to Shakti and gratitude.

I want to feel safe and guided during the process. I have had visions of Yogananda and Muktananda.

not to sound naieve... but i am... is this enough guidance for me? i believe guidance is necessary... is it possible for me to be protected by Muktananda... who embodies the Siddha Yoga path? I have been seeing a healer who is on the siddha yoga path... i actually did not know this aspect of her life until i mentioned my kundalini experiences. what do you recommend? thankyou sincerely, donna

If you feel you don't have enough guidance there are options open to you. Muktananda left plenty of material and advice on Kundalini so if you haven't already perhaps you might find some of his works helpful. You could also visit his successor (Swami Nityananda) in person at Shanti Mandir in NY state or there are others in this lineage in the US who maybe be willing to offer advice. Muktananda drew heavily upon Kashmir Shaivism/Trika, which could be said to be the foundation school for most of Tantra and Kundalini teachings/knowledge. So you might also find checking out some works on this helpful. A student of Muktananda's wrote a good basic general intro book on the topic called Consciousness is Everything: The Yoga of Kashmir Shaivism. Alternatively if you wished to go down the Yogananda route I would think there would be an SRF somewhere not too far from you. I'm sure there are even more options beyond the above. :)

Best wishes

Sahaja Yoga :http://www.sahajayoga.org/
is a meditation that guides you in easy steps how to clear the chakras and nadis and awaken the kundalini.

The experiences are profound - find a center nearest to your city to attend the meditations. There is no charge for these meditations since the core belief is that you cannot pay for something as deep like this.
