Hi there,

Is the nervousness due to the fact that you will be going on-site (ie safety concerns) or from a client-therapist standpoint?

Hi Agatha,

For peace of mind, make sure you keep a record of the name and address with someone before you go and arrange to call someone as soon as the appointment is over let them know you are ok.

If possible, get dropped off and picked up for this appointment if it helps to put your mind at rest. Also make a point of mentioning that fact that other peopel know you are there when with the client. Assume you will be fine and you will be!

From the treating males clients aspect... like you said you'll be fine once you get going, we're human as well. If you find that afterwards you still struggle, Private message me and I'll help you with specifics.

I personally love a good indian head massage, unfortunatley the only person willing to give me one is my cat... when I am asleep, but that is another story...

All the best

Asif

Hi Agatha,

in addition to Asif's practical advice - I find that guys seem to become very regular clients once they've experienced an enjoyable hands-on therapy.
( I'm not sure why that is- maybe not as much guilt with spending time / £ on themselves?!)

Ground & centre yourself before the treatment - Also something I always do before a bodywork session is to place my hands on their shoulders ( or back if they're lying down ) and ask then to do 3 deep breaths - while you also do the breaths with them.Visualise any nervous tension leaving you and the client.

The only real difference I find is that generally you have to use deeper pressure, but of course that will depend on age and build etc.

let us know how you get on....!

Jayne

Ps - just seen the date on your post- sorry its belated advice and I hope all went well for you.

Hi

I hope your first visit to a male client went ok. I've only recently qualified in Swedish massage and work on a mobile basis. Because of the seedy underworld of massage, I considered only treating women. However, as I'm going into sports massage, I decided that I need to get used to treating men as well.

My first ever client after I qualified was the husband of a friend of a friend. I'd seen him about, but never actually spoken to him. He's a really nice guy and is now a regular client. When I visited him this morning, his wife also booked an appointment with me for next week!!

I don't advertise at present so all my clients are through word of mouth, which is good because if they're not someone I knew already, they're a friend or family member of someone I know. Even so, I still make sure that I write out a list of where I'm going to be at what time and leave it with both my mum and my boyfriend. It's always important to keep yourself as safe as possible.

I'd say that if at any point you do feel too uncomfortable, make your excuses and leave.
