Hi all,

I've been registered for about a month now but due to being a perfectionist or is it maybe wavering self esteem I haven't yet managed to post a topic for discussion. Anyway i'll start with introductions and hopefully move forward from there.

I'm Rebecca,I'm 29 and a holistic therapist and Reiki Teacher (I intensely dislike the title Reiki Master). Before I ramble on about me the basics are in my profile if anyone fancies a read, the rest, well you'll probably know most of it before long I tend to talk too much.

Hi Bex and welcome. I like you already 'cause you don't like Reiki master. There is a thread about that term,(I think I upset some people) Good for you. Hope your practice is going well. Always remember people are not perfect, just people.

Hi Bex,Jon,
Welcome Bex.
Actually the term master in it'self is ok but it may be the perception others have of it's use. I believe I am correct in saying that in Japan the term master is used just as we use teacher in the Reiki context.Unfortunately in the west many think that the term master gives one superiority over another, I guess it's the ego.It also seems that people are now using the term Reiki and expecting doors to suddenly open as it's popularity(or the legends around it) increase. Just because one calls themselves a master, therapist or even doctor does not mean they are competent, effective or can teach. I trained alongside a guy for over 20 yrs in Karate and he was a competent Black belt but was hopeless at teaching to others.

Hi Jon, Dave & Asif,

Thanx for the welcome! You make a really interesting point there Dave about it being peoples perception of the term master, and the way that certain people have used the term it's something for me to think about in my teachings.
