WASHING POWDER/PANIC ATTACKS/DEPRESSION

Apparently a six year old boy was about to be expelled from school because of his behaviour and constant angry outbursts. He also suffered panic attacks four times a day.

His GP offered a list of potent, mind-altering drugs to control his condition. As a last resort his mother decided to take the advice of an alternative practitioner, which was to change her laundry detergent to an environmentally friendly one.

The change was extraordinary! The panic attacks stopped immediately and he became a model pupil at school.

This child was suffering from the chemical perfumes from laundry detergents, fabric conditioners, air fresheners, candles, incense and household cleaners – common triggers found under your kitchen sink.

Psychiatric conditions such as anxiety and panic attacks, nail biting, OCD (occupational compulsive disorder), depression and suicidal tendencies can be linked to chemical sensitivities.

I have read many similar stories to this one, and even more complex ones, that have been solved by switching the washing powder/fabric conditioner, to an environmentally friendly one.

So….better rush down to the supermarket quick!!

Ann :) xx

All too common and all too true Ann. Chemical sensitivity is one of mankinds biggest dangers and sadly most doctors here and in Aussie don't even believe it exists.
Quite often, the condition can be made worse by candida. The combination is diabolical.

Can you give a link to that article, Ann, or is it personal experience?
I ask because, as it stands, it's 'just a bit of hearsay' really! :) If you see what I mean!

Thanks for this Ann and I agree very much about the hazards of these chemicals.

Out of interest, what do you all use? I use Soap Nuts mostly but Ecover for some things. I have just bought some Bio-D washing powder to try that out.

Jon Hi! Yes, candida would certainly add to this big time!

Hi Debbie - I use Ecover really for everything. This is an unbelievable coincidence, but just after I originally posted this, a man arrived to fix the tele. OMG!!!!
He saturated the house with his washing detergent - I could barely breath. Even hours after he left, the house was oozing with it!

Wow Ann! That is awful and shows how much is affected you.

I love Ecover. I think it smells lovely. It is expensive so I am going to try the Bio -D to see how that compares.

Why does a tele-fixing-person use washing detergent?? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Or should I say aerial? Or...oh never mind! :)

Hi Ann

I would like to see that article also, I've been suffering badly from depression and candida which tends to worsen when I'm doing, guess what? The washing!

Regards
Julie

Hi Julie,

I can forward it across to you - just let me have your email address. There may of course be a link, since you notice these symptoms whilst doing the washing - but there may also be other reasons involved.

This reminds me of a similar story about high rates of asthma on a Scottish island - think it was one of the Hebrides - where there were very few cars ( which it is normally blamed on ) and they traced it to the formeldehyde ( a common allergen) in fabric conditioner.
BTW Ann, did you mean the telly mans deodorant or aftershave who came to the house ?? Or do you have a very keen sense of smell?

Also someone I know was severely ill ,difficulty walking & MS type symptoms - as a consequence of being allergic/intolerant to her hairspray. She made a full recovery once she stopped using it :)

Hello Jayne,

It was biological washing powder my tele man brought with him! I can detect it a mile off:)

Interesting about the hairspray! There is a book called The Allergy Connection and on the back it has a pic of a can of hairspray. Written across the can it says, ''Exhaustion"

People seem to forget that we inhale toxins, as well as inherit and acquire them ourselves. There are numerous accounts of household products causing illness, but unfortunately I don't have all of them pdf'd.

Interesting Ann. Thanks for posting.

My Mum was/is allergic to biological washing powder so we always used non-bio whilst I was a child. I moved onto things like ecover when I discovered it many moons ago. I am trying 'Faith in Nature' washing up liquid and I also use bio-D cleaner.

If you ever have a try at doing your washing in the machine without any powder at all, you'll discover it comes out just as clean! (Unless it's really greasy & grubby.) It's mainly the movement of the clothes that cleans! :)

yes -probably that there are still heaps of residues left in the clothes from the detergent as well........soap nuts are meant to be good , anyone used them?

Ah yes..... When I run out of washing up powder I use this method too. I don't notice the difference really.

Thanks for reminding me on this one Ann. I had been having trouble getting oil out of massage towels and had switched to a conventional liquid wash. One of my daughters has been reacting to the smell. Can you post the link?
Best Wishes
Fiona

Hi Fiona,

I'm glad this may be helpful to your daughter. If you can let me have your email address I can forward the attachment across.

I usually bring my own towel to massages, because really I just so detest the smell of those washing powders they use, whatever they are. It seems to linger all over my body for hours and hours.

Hi! Yes, I use soap nuts and they really are excellent. Your clothes come out nice and soft too. I use ecover too if something really needs a deep clean.

I'm not that impressed with any of the Ecover products to be honest. I tried a selection of products from Earth Friendly and was so impressed that I started selling them. The laundry liquid is very reasonable (works out at 14p for load) and you don't use fabric conditioner as its already built in. All the ingredients are 100% natural and contain organic essential oils.

I don't normally do a sales pitch on my shop products but I am just so impressed with these.

Ann.......would you mind forward to the information to me please as I would love to see it. I have very sensitive and haven't used chemicals for over 20 years and my children are also.

Love
Yasmin
