Yes I do agree. Mercury is a very powerful, toxic metal and leaks over the years when you chew your food and brush your teeth. It lodges in the kidneys, liver and other organs, and eventually the brain.

It is enlightening that Norway has banned mercury from dental practice - sad for us though that we have to continue with it.

But we can always insist, at the dentist, that our filling does not contain mercury. We can exercise that choice.

But the choice shouldn't be there in the first place.

A lot of conventional dentists themselves deny that mercury is toxic and a health hazard. No-one here is acknowledging this fact. I send an awful lot of my patients to my dental practice which is mercury-free, because invariably it is the mercury that is contributing to their condition.

It ought to be well established that mercury is toxic and dangerous and banned full stop from dentistry. Most people choose to have mercury rather than composite simply because they believe it is safe. It is not.

In NZ, most dentists have not even heard of the mercury debate.

Hello all, I am just back from my dentist with a droopy smile and a empty purse, me not the dentist! Asked him about the mercury in my fillings he started on that there wasn't really any proof of the harmful effects but tellingly when I asked him if he would have them he said he wouldn't have mercury in his own mouth!!

So that's me booked in to have existing ones replaced over the coming months.

When I asked my dentist about it- he said that a cup of tea had more mercury in it !

Does anyone have any info about this ?

A cup of tea has more mercury in it? Ha! That's something I have never heard before, so like you Jane, would be interested to hear more.

I know there is a lot of mercury in tuna fish and the flu jab vaccination etc. etc., but never knew about tea.

Ruth - your dentist sounds typical. Also, mercury is much easier for dentists to fill the teeth with, than composite, so they prefer to use it from that angle. I hope your teeth are feeling a bit better now!
