Hi,
I am qualified in Reiki levels1 and 2, Indian Head Massage, Crystal Healing and a Spiritual Healer (member of NFSH National Federation of Spiritual Healers).
I am about to open my own practice but am unsure where to advertise, any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks, Jennifer

Hello Jennifer
I think there is more than one thread here about promoting and advertising yourself & your business, if you care to search. But you will certainly have to do something about it soon, if you're on the point of starting out, as clients don't just walk in off the street! :) It's usually a long hard struggle to get a holistic enterprise up & running. Good luck with the endeavour & let us know how you get on.

Hi Jennifer,

Good question! It seems to be the most asked amongst new business owners like yourself.

There is a section of the forum that covers this, you can find it here:

http://www.holisticlocal.co.uk/forums/view/14

However, some areas I have found from my own experience to be useful:

You are a business owner as well as a therapist so you need to have two hats on, its where many therapy business flounder when they start out. Having the qualifications and desire to help people is not enough, you will need to get savvy with business in general and marketing your practise properly.

First things first.....Get a website! I get more business from this than by advertising in publications. You can get one done for about £200, and there will be many companies local to you who can do this for you, all you have to do it write the copy. Its your advert with all the information you want on there, available 24 hours a day to anyone, anytime of year.

As a clinical hypnotherapist, and have found marginal success from advertising in newspapers and publications, it may be different for you. When you register your business you will get loads of calls asking you to advertise in publications you have never heard of.... always ask them to send you the publication and to give you their number so you can call them back. Some of these publications do not exist! So be wary.

The best form of advertising is through people, offer free taster sessions to key people in your locality, so some events for charity, you get exposure and all you have given is your time and NOT money. Word of mouth is the most potent form af advertising and is the biggest marketing tool. Get people talking!

I would also research where similar businesses to yourself advertise and how they do it. No need to reinvent the wheel, just find what works and replicate it.

Have a look at the various threads within that section of the forum I gave you the link to and have a read. You may find a suggestion or idea that is perfect for you as you start out.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

peace

Asif
