Interesting news story here:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23494001-details/...

This feels like the start of what I believe is a very difficult period we're going to be entering.

There's a film I saw quite recently that I've been meaning to recommend here since I watched it. It's not comfortable viewing, but ultimately leaves you feeling hopeful that a new world can rise out of the ashes of the current one.

Anyway, I strongly recommend that everyone orders this film

It's called What a Way to go: Life at the End of Empire

The most amazing thing about the fuel prices is that the rich oil nations are just getting richer.
Its looking pretty bleak from that article Andy, but most governments are not interested in reducing prices, after all 40% of $1 is 49c, but 40% of $2 = 80c, well now thats a lot more, and they didn't have to do anything to collect more tax.
Politicians, that is governments, have only ever been self-serving, what little help they offer will only be cosmetic.

It's not all bad news. Can’t seem to download a link to give you but it was a Reuter video on today's Sydney Morning Herald. http://www.smh.com.au/

With oil prices soaring and fuel protests spreading it almost sounds too good to be true - a car that runs on nothing but water, even tea works. Gene packs (not sure about spelling) in Osaka takes hydrogen from water and releases electrons. 1 litre of water lasts about one hour at 80k. Company hopes to go into production with Japanese manufacturer.

Also see http://www.mindreality.com/special/car-on-water.html though I am always a bit dubious of this type of ad.

I heard years ago that someone in Brazil had found a way to run a car on water, but the big oil companies paid him a large sum of money for the rights to the idea - and to keep his mouth shut!! That wouldn't surprise me at all.

(Your links don't go anywhere, I'm afraid, Suzanne!)

there has been something on the local news about being able to create fuel from recycling cooking oil from restaurants.

the huge surge in oil prices etc will surely fire up the geniuses (geniae?) to come up with new solutions....

focus on what we do want as that is what we could end up with
