The root of all suffering is separation. Separation is an illusion. When the illusion stops it is directly perceived that there is no division. The split is already healed. It never was. There is only oneness. This shift in perception is variously known as Liberation, Self-Realization or Enlightenment and is the end of suffering. It is also the end of you.
What remains is the underlying reality of all that is, unconditional love, the nature of which is so impossible for the mind to grasp that it can only be described as Mystery.
Liberation is a radical shift in identity from a 'me' to oneness with the incomprehensible source of everything, appearing as what I am.
While there still appears to be a separate 'you' who is suffering, engaging in a process can bring clarity and comfort to a time of confusion and emotional pain as all that has been suppressed emerges.
Prior to Liberation, during and after the awakening experience there often seems to be an unravelling or deconstruction of the psychological issues that, bound together, create 'your' personality.
Transcendent spiritual experience whether of bliss-filled oneness or terror in response to a glimpse of the void can take the lid off a can of previously unconscious worms. When the light enters the form what was hiding in the dark becomes starkly exposed.
