For the past 11 years I have devoted my time to find some way to help those who have little or no way to manage their pain. I am 28 years of age and suffer from chronic back pain as a result from an injury I sustained in 1997.

This was no ordinary injury. I was struck in the leg just 4 inches above my knee with an outdoor power saw (used for cutting down trees). When I realized the extent of my injury I knew immediate action needed to be taken. When the power saw struck, it knocked out 2 inches of bone from my left femur and continued through the rest of my leg. I spent over 15 hours in surgery and had two more procedures to correct length and mobility.

During my hospitalization, the trauma team, (which I am so thankful for) had to tell me that sports were not for me anymore. After eight days of hospitalization I walked out with the help of crutches and a goal to once again play sports. After a year of physical therapy; learning to walk again and regaining my strength; I was able to apply to the University of Tennessee Chattanooga where I joined the Crew (rowing) team as a novice rower. Within two months I had made the varsity team where I spent the next two years.

From there I went on to win 5 gold medals and 3 silver all of which paid a visit to my doctors and therapists. Had it not been for the trauma team at MUSC in
Charleston, SC, and my therapist at Appalachian Orthopedic Associates in Johnson City, TN, I am scared to think how things would have played out.

However, as a result of my injury I am faced with pain that can’t be managed with medicine due to allergies, and all other resources had been exhausted; (so I thought)! I was able to find (to my surprise) a massage therapist who specialized in neuromuscular therapy and deep tissue massage. At last! I was conquering my pain with each therapeutic treatment. With only four treatments most of the pain had subsided and I have been learning self help techniques to use between treatments.

After graduating college in 2003 I too wanted to be able to help others with similar issues such as mine.

I was licensed in 2003 by NCBTMB and the state of Tennessee in 2004.

I currently work with orthopedic patients, as well as treating those who suffer from chronic pain.
Recently I have begun to work as a Massage Therapy Consultant for those who wish to start their own business.

If you feel that massage therapy could be an alternative for you, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

I can be reached by phone: @ (423) 426-3544

Additional Information

I realize that when considered, most of us view massage therapy as a luxury instead of prevention. This is not the attitude that opens the door for possibility. When you are in pain your body has the potential to correct itself with help of a skilled therapist. Do your homework and and get as much information as you can about who the therapist is and what their training background consist of! Do they have the proper training to provide the required modality that will best suit the specific complaint? Just because a therapist says they can work on you does not mean that they have been trained to work on you in a manner specific to what brought you to them in the first place. It is time to up the standards of what we do so that we can have a future within the alternative medicine community!!!!!!!
