Are you being poisened by your clothes?

1

I recently started noticing that there appears to be very sharp smells coming out of plastic bags when opening new clothes bags.  At first I did not take notice, then mentioned it to my fiance and daughter, who just put it down to my hypersensitive nose.  However, I know I smell something when I open such bags and lately certain clothes shops smell of that strange smell too, the minute I walk into them.  At which point, I feel so …

Is your shampoo making you FAT?

The truth about ‘chemical calories’ in beauty products
Most women look at their bodies and criticize themselves and wish to have slimmer thighs or hourglass figures and blame a lot of factors such as over eating or not being active enough. Now these are valid problems in today’s fast paced quick meal take away cultures we are all part off. BUT how many of you think or consider that it could perhaps be the shampoo you use that …

The new buzz word: pro-biotics

3

The new buzz word:  pro-biotics … is not quite so new.  It goes back over 100 years ago.   The Russian born bacteriologist and 1908 Nobel Laureate, Ilya Mechnikov, stated:
“Death begins in the colon.”
In his groundbreaking book Prolongation of Life, Mechnikov documented in detail the unusually lengthy life spans of several societies that practised eating fermented foods and special bacterial cultures called kefirs.  Mechnikov made regular studies of 100+ year-old highly active men and women that were still leading healthy lives!
In …

New tests reveal many pesticides block male hormones

3

If you eat grapes, strawberries and other non-organic vegetables and fruit you may be shocked to find out that many agricultural pesticides – including some previously untested and commonly found in food – disrupt male hormones.  This is according to new tests conducted by British scientists.
The researchers strongly recommended that all pesticides in use today be screened to check if they block testosterone, which is critical to men’s and boys’ reproductive health.  Scientists at the University of London have tested and …

Study help and useful guide

3

As a tutor and kinesiologist I recently came across this book which is an excellent study support and training guide and wanted to share it with others:
Great Ways to Learn Anatomy & Physically by Charmaine McKissock – ISBN 978-0-230-20991-6 www.palgrave.com
This is much more than ‘A guide to helping students study A & P’. The intelligent questionnaires, easy to understand examples of what stresses us and how we can manage this, and understanding individual styles of learning are a great support …

Why witch hazel?

4

Wouldn’t it be great to find a skincare ingredient that cleanses, tones and soothes, leaving even oily or combination skin perfectly balanced, soft and healthy looking, and is completely natural? Witch skincare have been using this natural ingredient for over 40 years, in all their products. It’s no big secret: simply Witch Hazel.
The witch hazel plant is a deciduous fork-branched shrub with yellow flowers. Hamamelis virginiana is the common variety native to North America. The generic name, Hamamelis (“fruit” and “together”) is derived from …

21 again? No thanks!

1

I spent most of my twenties thinking I was grown up, that I knew what I was doing. I even acted like it was true; I wore suits to work, I got married. I continued on the conveyer belt. I had the worst time.
How glad I am, then, to have reached my thirties. Finally I am beginning to accept myself and let that repressed soul free. I look at my body and its various battle scars and I don’t long for slender …

What are Chakras?

1

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’ or ‘turning’ and is used to describe the energy centres within the etheric body (aura). We have seven main chakras and many other smaller ones each connected to an individual sound, light and colour. Chakras allow us to absorb and transmit energy into and out of our environment and the people and objects within it. This is why the mood of others can affect us so greatly and why we often feel drained or tired …

Meditative Reflection…

1

As part of my yoga teacher training course, we were asked to keep a meditation diary for 6 weeks to record and reflect on our experiences. It was a fascinating task and gave powerful results.
I originally found this 6-week diary quite a challenge and most of it was do with keeping a record of my thoughts and experiences of meditation, rather than the practice itself. Before embarking on this diary I was meditating at least four times a week and …
