Listen up…

0

Following on from my ‘deaf announcement’ I thought it was a rather apt time for me to discuss one of my favourite mindfulness topics with you – listening.
I’m not referring to your physical hearing or ability to discern different sounds, what I’m talking about here is that quiet authentic voice within you, otherwise known as intuition or inner wisdom.
Whether I’m delivering a one on one relaxation session or preaching stress management to groups of tense professionals, one thing …

Beating Depression

1

Depression is a problem, especially with dark evenings and short days. These longer nights affects the pineal gland, which is  a very small gland located within the brain and produces the hormone melatonin that controls body rhythms, in particular our internal body clock and our sleeping and waking patterns.
In the dark, the pineal gland is stimulated to make and release melatonin which aids sleep patterns and produces serotonin in the day which makes us feel happy, vital and full of energy.
Serotonin …

Why Sex is Always More Than Just Sex

0

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we inhabit our sexual energy. When we think of sex, we usually focus on the external experience – the activity between the people involved. But each of us also has a relationship with our own sexual energy. I’m going to offer a bold suggestion: how we manage our sexual energy impacts how we manage all other aspects of our lives.
Because sex is private we don’t think of it as impacting the rest of …

Let some colour into your life

0

Colour is energising, soothing, calming and uplifting. It symbolises purity, passion, respect, peace, and is used in all aspects of life, from weddings to funerals. We know how our bodies react to certain colours and surroundings; we “see red”, “feel blue”, or are “green with envy”. Colour energy plays a part in the clothes we wear, the food we eat, the way we decorate our homes. You will be attracted to certain colours or indeed repelled by certain shades depending …

Boosting your immune system

1

The immune system is made up of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs; it defends people against germs and microorganisms. In most cases, the immune system does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections. but problems with the immune system can lead to illness and infection, while stress levels can also play a part in suppressing the health of our immune system.  Winter is a time of colds, flu and immune imbalances, often being made worse by …

Small Change. Big Impact.

0

We’ve all done it. Even though we have good intentions, we get to the checkout and realise we forgot to bring some bags to pack our purchases in. Even though there are cupboards and drawers full of the things at home. It’s annoying and it’s such a waste.
All of the plastic that has ever been manufactured is still with us. Even when plastic bags break down in landfill, they never completely go away. The remaining dangerous and toxic particles can still …

Meditative Reflection…

1

As part of my yoga teacher training course, we were asked to keep a meditation diary for 6 weeks to record and reflect on our experiences. It was a fascinating task and gave powerful results.
I originally found this 6-week diary quite a challenge and most of it was do with keeping a record of my thoughts and experiences of meditation, rather than the practice itself. Before embarking on this diary I was meditating at least four times a week and …

Hayfever – be prepared

0

So many of us have a reaction to ‘unknown’ polluntants and think we have ‘Hayfever’.  This reaction is our body defending us or indicating that we have been exposed to an allergen.  There are many reasons for ‘hayfever’ type symptoms. These can include reaction to pesticides being sprayed onto farmland – especially from March onwards, household pollutants including any aerosol type product (personal products), air fresheners, cleaning products, soap powders, conditioners, petrol fumes, toxins in the air and so on.
Other problem …

Want to know a secret…?

0

Seeing as we’re still getting to know each other, I thought I’d tell you a little secret about me. I don’t usually tell my online readers this but for some reason I feel compelled to share this with you now.
You see the thing is, I’m deaf. Totally deaf. Deaf as a doorknob. I have a funky purple hearing aid with a glittery pink mould but without it I’m soooo deaf I wouldn’t hear someone screaming behind me, or saucepans crashing, …

New Year, New Moon…Time To Be Your Own Best Friend

0

Well, the Christmas break is well and truly behind us now.  Like me, you’ve probably had some time off over Christmas and now you’ve settled back into your usual routine, carrying out the various roles we have in life – partner, parent, worker etc.  The problem is that we can so easily lose ourselves in the stress of daily life.
 Take me for example.  I’m a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend, a business woman, a therapist, a teacher, a …

Straight -Up and Tender: Today’s Real Men

2

In my work as a passion coach I have the privilege of  hearing people speak about their experiences of love. In recent months one conversation has recurred – with clients, friends and even random acquaintances. Young men (in their late 20’s to early 30’s) have been saying the same thing: they want to be in a committed relationship. These men have a number of things in common: they are gorgeous, intelligent, successful in their careers and are clearly able to …
