Reflexology - The simpler, the better

By Bob Davies

I love reflexology, when I work I become the Conductor, encouraging a synthesis of different sounds, vibrations and tones into unique harmony. For me, that’s what it is, an art; a holistic fine art that seeks to relax and harmonise the mind and body. It encourages a return to homeostasis, our very own generic blueprint.

How does it work?

I focus my particular practice in a very definite but very simple way.

As one learns more and develops in one’s discipline, one would expect the treatment to become more complicated but in fact it has become even more simple, the simpler, the better.
In my own practice reflexology may work on three main levels

· By stimulating the bodies own self healing ability
· Stimulating the 7000 nerve endings in the feet
· By relieving stress and tension.

Unwanted stress seems to be the main symptom of our modern life and the underlying cause of those symptoms often remains unexplored and unchallenged. It is simply to the cause of these underlying stressors that my practice is applied.

Sometimes perhaps we forget just who we really are; perhaps we forget our true nature and forget our own rightful place and purpose within the constant cycle of life. Our modern lifestyle encourages us to live in such a way that perhaps we become detached from our real selves. Many complementary therapies encourage a return to our true nature even if it’s just for a short but potentially valuable time. Reflexology encourages grounding.

The stimulation of the 7000 nerve endings in the feet may initiate a profound relaxation response, in fact sometimes, time needs to be built into a session to allow the client time to return to a fully conscious condition, this is particularly important if they need to drive home. As the stress falls away, clients may often discover just how stressed their bodies really are and just how and where these stresses are held or nurtured. They may feel energised and relaxed and these feelings may stay with them even for a couple of days depending on their environmental stressors As a result tensions and stresses may often be identified, acknowledged and relieved.

Reflexology may be used in many applications, some clients require general relaxation and stress release or sometimes, before the client may start to return to homeostasis, more commitment may be required to break down the accumulated layers. Some just come because they enjoy it so.

Who is suited to reflexology?

Not everyone will be suited to reflexology, some people do not like their feet to be touched, they believe that it will be ticklish, in fact, in professional hands it rarely proves to be ticklish and the client often is able to relax straight away. Different therapies suit different people but if you find that you are suited to reflexology as many people are, then you may be in for a very pleasant surprise indeed.

Bob Davies offers mainly Reflexology but also Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Spirtual Healing for natural health, stress and well being around Gatwick in Surrey. He has an interest in stress management
