Food for the Soul, Essential Harmony Energy Work

By Janet Fish, LMT

Everyone feeds their soul differently. Some are “filled up” when they meet with friends and share time together, some of us pray and meditate, some need solitude, some eat, exercise, enjoy music or read. The list goes on and on…

One especially wonderful way to feed the soul is to receive massage and energy work. The long gliding strokes of Swedish massage and the gentle rocking of KAM (kinesthetic awareness through movement) help quiet the mind and allow the spirit to speak to us. Another wonderful body technique is Energy Work. Science has shown that all of our life experiences are stored in our bodies. Every word, thought, expression, and event (trauma and joys) is recorded and remembered in the energy system of our bodies. There are three major parts of the energy system: the field (aura), the energy centers (charkas) and the energy tracts (meridians). Before any physical emotional or mental condition materializes in the body, it is reflected in the energy system.

I beleive illness is influenced by imbalances or blockages in the energy system. Dr. Dora Kunz, president of the American Section of the Theosophical Society, has worked for many years with the medical profession and in healing. She has observed in her book The Spiritual Aspects of the Healing Arts that, “each organ in the body has its corresponding energetic rhythm in the etheric field. Between the spheres of the various organs, the different rhythms interact as if a transfer function were occurring; when the body is whole and healthy, these rhythms transfer easily from organ to organ. However, with pathology, the rhythms as well as the energy levels are changed”. When an energy practitioner is centered and grounded, they can perceive the energy system through the visual, auditory, or kinesthetic senses (movement, density, temperature). They sense clarity, symmetry, balance and harmony in the field. The energy that the body requires will flow through the practitioner, but not from the practitioner, to the receiver. The practice of “laying on of hands” in the Christian faith can be looked at as a form of energy work. The minister quiets himself or herself and allows the Holy Spirit (energy) to come through them to the receiver. They have no personal agenda, just the wish that the person’s highest good will be served. Many other ancient cultures live by the belief that life-force energy (ki, prana, chi, spirit) extends beyond the skin into an “energy field” that surrounds and interpenetrates the body. So, no matter what your personal belief system is, by working with the energy system we have the opportunity to unlock the messages and see the challenges in life as a gift given to us to help us grow closer to our soul, thus “feeding” us and helping us be whole (body, mind and spirit).

At Essential Unwinding and The Art of Massage in Groton Janet offers her own unique form of energy work: Essential Harmony Energy Work. Combining Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Polarity Therapy, and Prayer in each session, she offers her clients heart-centered, compassionate care. Janet and her business partner Laurie have, with intention, created a sacred space where people can come, unwind and “feed their soul”.
