Happy Birthday Taurus! For those born between April 19th – May 19th,
The Key Phrase is: I Own. Taurus is a fixed (directed, willful), earth (grounded, stable) sign located in the 1st quadrant (self oriented/personal) of the Eastern Hemisphere of the chart. Because Taurus resides in the 2nd house of the zodiac and is ruled by the planet Venus, beauty and possessing objects of beauty are important to Taurus. Possessions are valued and bring a sense of security to security-minded Taurus. As we discussed in the last issue, the sign of Aries inhabits the 1st house of the natural zodiac. The first house is the cusp of the Ascendant or as you may already know as the Rising Sign. Because Taurus arrives immediately after fiery 1st house Aries, who wants to tell everyone they have “arrived”, Taurus then asks, “What should I possess or own”? Taurus now desires to create a sense of security for him/herself. In order to build that sense of security Taurus develops a value system and that value system usually includes people, objects of lasting beauty, sensuality and the sense of touch, sensual pleasure such as food, jewelry, furs etc, the need to vocalize (Taurus rules the throat) those desires and a love nature. The ability to earn an income and special talents may all be found in the 2nd house of one’s natal chart. If you have no planets in your 2nd house, look to where the ruler of that house (the cusp ruler) is located and, along with its aspects, this will give you a glimpse of where your talents, values and earning potential is derived.
Taurus is determined, materialistic and will tend to hold onto things and people long after they are needed. Earthy Taurus is sensual and desires experiencing life through their senses. Taurus enjoys luxurious foods and textures. They tend towards romanticism and are usually passionate lovers.
Taurus in health issues relates to the throat and neck. Sore throats, swollen glands or laryngitis may be more common with Taurus. Taurus also rules the thyroid gland which regulates weight. Taureans enjoy food and are prone to put on weight as they grow older. Taurus is distinguishable by their lovely, throaty voice and thicker than average neckline. Singers Cher and Barbra Streisand have Taurus as their Sun sign. Because Taurus is ruled by the planet of love and beauty, Venus, many Taurus possess grace of movement and dress. They prefer to purchase “quality” rather than quantity although they can be the collectors of the zodiac. Collecting provides a sense of security to Taurus. The Taurus or Libran (also Venus ruled) personalities can be the best dressed in the room and show a certain amount of “class”.
Taurus, being a fertile earth sign, usually has an affinity with the garden and gardening. Growing, fertility and nurturing is the realm of Taurus.
The animal symbol for Taurus is the Bull. His horns resemble the crescent moon. The moon is exalted (feels most comfortable and at ease) in Taurus. An Earth sign, Taurus is sensual. The senses, taste, touch, sight etc. are all important to Taurus. In astrology Taurus is considered to be the most fertile and constant of all the signs. Slow to warm up, like the bull preparing to charge, once ready and in motion, is unwavering and determined. Taurus perseveres at all costs.
Taurus’ polar opposite (2nd house – my values, talents, my security, earning potential, my money and possessions) is the intense, watery sign of Scorpio (8th house- others values, others money and possessions). The integration of “my values” versus “what others value” is a life lesson for Taurus, and contingent upon other areas of the birth chart.

THE HIEROPHANT – Number V – Taurus
The Hierophant is symbolic of belief systems, groups and rules within a group. He is a religious figure and represents an official “teacher” within the church, school, teams companies, and clubs as well as the facts and procedures within these groups. The need to conform is indicated. Being part of the establishment and staying within convention is another possibility. Speaking the truth and listening to your inner voice is important.
When you see this card in a reading, you may need to follow certain procedures. In following the procedures we may feel stifled or controlled by our circumstances. Tradition and ceremony is indicated. It may be a time to seek spiritual guidance or a spiritual teacher may enter your life. Patience, caution and a steady pace is indicated. Sometimes this card in a reading will signify a legal marriage or contract of some kind. Feeling loyalty and commitment is another meaning of this card.

FROGS RETURN MOON (Beaver)
In Native American Astrology, those born from April 21 – May 20th are born under the Frogs Return Moon and their animal totem is the Beaver. Their color is blue and their totem in the mineral kingdom is the chrysocolla, similar to the turquoise.
The chrysocolla ranges from green to blue green and has a glassy luster. It is often used for adornment in the form of jewelry. It is considered to be of medicinal use that will bring health and luck to the wearer. Beaver people combine within themselves the powers of the earth and the sky. It is important for Beaver people, who often remain too rooted in thoughts and at the earth level, to look up to the sky and to incorporate the lessons to be learned which are found there.
The blue camas is a plant that was a staple food for the Native Americans in many parts of the United States. When the flower of the plant was in bloom they would dig up the bulb for food. Beaver people are conscious of beauty and practicality at the same time. The camas bulb contains insulin, a complex sugar. Blue camas was eaten regularly by Native people to keep the blood sugar level in balance.
Beaver is the builder and doer of the animal kingdom. They have a strong sense of family. SOUL MATES/RELATIONSHIPS:
The Taurus/Scorpio - Ascendant/Descendant Relationship Axis (1st house/7th house)
As mentioned in past issues, knowing your partners 7th house cusp (the relationship house) and the ruler of that house will indicate the type of partner you may attract or are attracted to and the method of relating within a relationship.
The Ascendant or Rising sign is the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This is the face we show the world, our “mask” for which our Sun hides behind. This is our outer personality, temperament and disposition as well as how we experienced our early home environment growing up. It is the way others see us and also gives indication of our physical appearance. The ruler of the Ascendant and the aspects (connections to other planets in your birth chart) further delineate and define your physical appearance.
The Descendant, or 7th house cusp, its ruler and the aspects it makes in your birth chart, is symbolic of the type of partner you are attracted to. The 7th house is the house of all partnerships including marriage and legal contracts yet also considered the house of open enemies or the Defendant in a law suit.
In relationships, Taurus’ ruling planet is feminine Venus. If you have a Taurus Ascendant, you appear practical, sensual, and hardy and maintain a reliable and steadfast disposition. You prefer kissing and caressing, especially in the neck and throat area. Because you are a fixed, earth sign, it would be difficult to change your mind on any subject or idea. Yet once you set your sights on some one or something, your focus is unwavering! You desire loyalty and passion in your relationships. Jealousy and possessiveness are a tendency as well as a propensity for conceit and overindulgence.
With Mars/Pluto ruled Scorpio on the descendant, you seek a sexy, intense, sensual and passionate partner. A superficial relationship would hold no appeal for this placement.
One of the first things you could look at when you have the birth data of a potential partner, is their Mars or Pluto placement since the these planets rule your Descendant.
It is also possible for a Taurus Ascendant person to attract a partner who has Venus prominent in their chart. Prominent Venus would be in aspect to the Sun, Moon, Mars or Mercury or elevated in conjunction to the MC (10th house cusp) or IC (4th house cusp) conjunct or ruling their Ascendant or Descendant or Sun sign in Virgo, Capricorn and Cancer.
Knowing the date, time and place of birth is important in making the determination of the Ascendant or Rising sign, the sign rising on the horizon at the time of birth. This cusp sets up all the other house cusps that are the divisions of the houses or areas of life.
