Indulge yourself

By Jayne Walker

As someone who has worked in the Beauty and Holistic Therapy field for many years, I still get the occasional client who finds it difficult to relax and enjoy their treatment – usually they have booked a treatment to use a gift voucher bought by a kind friend or family member who knows instinctively that this is just what they need!

As lifestyles become faster and ever more frantic, it has never been more important to take some time out to nourish ourselves.
I find that women , especially care givers, can find it one of the most difficult thing ever to step out of their normal role and be on the receiving end of some TLC.
It can feel very strange to be lying there with nothing expected of you other than just to move position now and again!

Taking regular time out is not soley about visiting salons and spa's, although the benefits of an occasional quality massage away from the home setting is well worth the cost.

  • Ritualise your bathing time with lighted candles and pure essential oils (dilute a couple of drops in full fat milk) try ylang-ylang, sandlewood or lavender and vetivert.

  • Leave your hair conditioner on for an extra 10 minutes and apply a plant based face mask on to revive tired skin – Liz Earle do some wonderous formulations for all skin types, including a range for men.

  • Give yourself a foot massage (or even better arrange to swap with a partner); I can highly recommend L'occitane's lavender and arnica foot cream, and which also doubles up as a cure all for bites and bruises.

As in many areas of life, practice makes perfect- and you'll soon be able to let go of the ' I could be doing something useful' type thoughts.
After all - if you are feeling tired and a little frayed around the edges, you're not able to be your best for those around you. Feeling good is infectious!

Hope you have a blissful time....
