Maintaining Health Using Reiki

Maintaining Health Using Reiki
Looking for an easy, effective way to help maintain your health? Try Reiki. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a natural method of energy balancing. It reduces anxiety, increases relaxation, and strengthens the body’s immune system. The best part is that anyone can learn it, and then use it anywhere, anytime.
When practicing Reiki certain hand placements are used over different parts of the body, allowing life force energy to flow where it is needed most. Reiki can be used for acute problems, such as headaches, stress, and minor injuries, or for chronic conditions as well. Since Reiki is natural life energy it is safe for everyone and can be applied for any circumstance. It works well as a complementary therapy with any medical treatment, and can easily be applied on yourself, or family and friends. Reiki works well on pets too!

Benefits of Reiki
The medical community recognize Reiki as a valuable complement to traditional treatment. Many doctors prescribe Reiki for their patients. Dr. Mehmet Oz, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital considers Reiki an important alternative treatment. He was one of the first physicians to allow a Reiki practitioner inside the operating room during surgery.

Hospitals across the nation also offer Reiki to their patients. Hartford Hospital in Connecticut has an award winning program with 50 volunteers offering Reiki hospital wide. Research from their program shows Reiki significantly decreases anxiety and pain, and improves sleep for their patients.

Portsmouth Regional Hospital offers Reiki to their patients prior to surgery. They found that a fifteen minute session can decrease the amount of pain medications needed by their patients and can also shorten their hospital stay.

Additional benefits of Reiki include:

  • decreases blood pressure
    • increases effectiveness of medications
    • reduces side effects
    • provides a sense of peace and contentment
    • releases suppressed feelings.
  • Learning Reiki
Learning Reiki is as simple as taking a one day class or seminar. A Reiki teacher uses a process called an attunement to open a student’s energy pathways and increase the energy vibrations. This facilitates the student’s access to life force energy that has always existed but has essentially been dormant.

Once an attunement is received, it remains for life. All a person needs to do is set the intent for Reiki to flow and it will begin flowing. It never fades or wears off, so “refresher” attunements are not necessary.

When choosing a Reiki teacher it’s important to find one that you are comfortable with. You may want to meet or talk with a few before making a decision. Many offer free Reiki shares which is a great opportunity to try the energy first before committing to a class.

In an environment of escalating healthcare costs, why not try an option that’s been effectively used for thousands of years. Reiki may provide you with the relief you’ve been looking for!
