Living a More Prosperous Life

By Rev. Linda Ketchum

What is prosperity to you?

To me it is a vibrant life filled with joy, peace and a healthy body and healthy relationships. It is a life where my needs and desires are met in a wonderful, productive way.

Are you living a prosperous life? If not now, exactly when are you expecting prosperity to show up in your life?

Henry David Thoreau wrote, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." I believe this is true when it comes to living a prosperous life too.

Instead of living in quiet desperation because we focus on what the news media is telling us about how hard life is and how bad the economy is, can we allow the song of prosperity and a fulfilling life to sing through us?

If you are ready to live a more fulfilling, prosperous life, here are a few suggestions of ways to change your thinking… and change your life.

Know what you want.
Set goals and see yourself achieving them.

  • Take some time and write down your desires no matter how large or small. (Keep a notebook with you to write down ideas.)
  • Choose your most important desires and list them in order of importance.
  • Consider the changes you might need to make in order to achieve your goals. (This is a very important step because sometimes we need to make changes within ourselves to achieve our goals.)
  • Choose a date by which you wish to achieve your desire.
  • Read your list at least 3 times every morning and evening.
  • Imagine yourself achieving your goal and whenever possible act as if you have already achieved it.
  • Don’t tell others; keep your goals between you and your higher self.
  • Cross off the goals, as achieved, and add new ones.
  • Be grateful.
Someone has said, “Whatever we take for granted, we will eventually lose.”

  • Be grateful for what you have right now!
  • Keep a gratitude journal and list at least 5 things you are grateful for everyday. Try to list new things everyday.
  • As you begin to make your gratitude list, things may come easy at first. Rather than repeating the same things over and over, look for new things and new areas to express gratitude.
  • Tell others how much you appreciate them and say “Thank you” as often as you can.
  • Forgive.
It has been said that an unwillingness to forgive is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.

  • Blame is a weight we carry until we let it go. It doesn’t hurt the other person involved. They go on with their life and we stay stuck.
  • Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves.
  • One of my favorite forgiveness tools is an affirmation:
  • “(Name of person or situation) I love you, I bless you, I forgive you and I release you to your highest and best good.”

  • When I sincerely and completely forgive, I release my trapped energy and allow myself to live a more prosperous life. I am free to participate in life more fully.
  • These tools are three ways each of us can use to shift our energy and move into a more prosperous, fulfilling and happy life.

Give them a try and watch your life change!
