Memories: Reliable or Not
In the year 2000, the incredibly profound movie “Memento“ was released. Memento, from the Latin, literally meaning ‘remember’, is the exquisite message of this brilliant movie. How reliable are our memories? Do our memories operate like our vision in that our minds fill in the blind spot where our optic nerve attaches to our retina? Do our minds fill in, add, delete and change some or many or most of the details of our lives? What is the truth about our lives? What is real?

How Downshifting Benefits Your Health and Wellbeing
About 17 years ago, I consulted a Complementary Therapist for the first time. I had decided to take a different route and try out what was for me an unknown and unexplored alternative to the conventional medicine I had always relied on in the past. Why? Because I was pregnant for the first time, suffering chronic morning sickness (of the “all day” variety) and unwilling to risk harming my baby by taking conventional drugs. This experience was to be a revelation for me and my introduction to a totally new way of viewing my own health and wellbeing, as well as that of my child.

Detoxification and Colon Cleansing
Detoxification and cleansing is the key to optimal health, more energy, vitality and a better immune system. Only a clean body is able to absorb vitamins and minerals on an optimum. A dirty body cannot carry out its proper functions, it is cluttered or buried up with waste products.

The future of counselling
Although counselling was my entry point into the world of complementary therapies, I think it's fair to say it has a difficult image. Counselling is seen by many, if not most, as an admission of weakness – a totally incorrect judgement on what many, like me, discover is a powerful and potentially life-changing tool.

What is Natural Living?
The terms ‘alternative’, ‘complementary’, ‘holistic’, ‘green’ and even ‘spiritual’, all seem to find a home under the umbrella of natural living. Alone, they may conjure up images and prejudices that we may not want to necessarily associate with, but mixed together as an all-encompassing way of life that honours our health, our communities and the planet, who in their right mind is not into living naturally?

Nightingale's Near-Death Experience
The Near-Death Experience (NDE)—of which I’ve had a few—mainly occurred at a time when NDEs were rarely documented, much less talked about. It was something I could only share with certain individuals, who were already spiritually aware, open minded…or, at least, receptive. Yet, it still happened that, on occasion, one would accuse me of having had a hallucination, or being in need of ‘psychiatric evaluation’, because ignorance was still so prevalent at that time. ALTERING THE BELIEF SYSTEM
According to psychiatrist Jeffrey Schwartz in a Newsweek article on February 26 1996, “The mind can change the brain.” During the month of February, Dr. Schwartz and four UCLA colleagues reported in the Archives of General Psychiatry that the mind could be at least as powerful as medicine when it comes to remodeling the brain. Behavioral modification, (altering the way a person behaves,) and cognitive therapy, (altering the way a person thinks,) can alter the biology of their brains. It is true that a leopard cannot change its spots – just as a person is not able to change the color of their skin. But as human beings we can adjust our thinking, which in turn may alter our behavior - which could lead to a change in our personality. Inevitably, some persons are capable of becoming subject to positive physiological, or psychological transformation regarding characteristics, identities, mannerisms, dispositions, or individual personality traits. Actors do this all the time. In order to induce a positive message into the subconscious the old message must be removed. In essence, the old undesirable message is not erased by the new message – it is nullified when inducing the desired, positive message.
