So how are you all doing with your New Year’s Resolutions?
We all know this time of year is ideal for a fresh start, however I am one of those that come January 1st is so walloped by the reduced natural light, the hibernation urge of winter & the post-Christmas flop (was it a strange one for you too?) that clarity & determination elude me, I just want to sleep!
I’ve tried thinking my way into action but I end up pushing my body, bypassing my soul & ignoring the truth of what I’m really feeling. I might feel pulled to try all the great, motivational ideas on offer but what I really need to do is drop inside myself to a deep cave & curl up in a ball until I unravel & feel ready to explore again. So, to those of you giving yourself a hard time because you don’t feel ready to transform your life just yet (!) I say rest, be gentle with yourself, allow the death/rebirth cycle of this season to occur in its own time so you can emerge gently into your newness with increased energy.
Your life may not need transforming, it may be enough just to learn the importance of truly loving & looking after yourself during this season. We are not designed for the world we have created, so don’t push yourself to conform to it, take time to reconnect with & listen to your body & your deepest inner stirrings. Listen in the stillness to the small voice within you & honour it. You know what you need if you really listen.
Within the winter cycles of death & rebirth are processes of letting go of the old, grieving, integration & renewal which all take as long as they take. In my life winter has often offered this literally with loved ones passing away followed by grieving, integrating the loss/change & then a fresh start or birth. For you it may be a change in career, home, relationship, self-image or life direction. I’ve realised that if I choose to I can flow with these cycles without judgement as nature does. The sun of springtime then shines where the darkness was & my future path reveals itself.
My True Year’s Resolution is to hear, nurture & honour my deepest needs & surrender to the winter tiredness, allowing my body to guide me so I am ready with properly recharged batteries for the coming year.
